- How can students gain maximum knowledge that would help them to get good marks too?
- How can students help themselves to attend all the classes to gain full knowledge?
- How best the students can use the college resources to pick up at least two games/hobbies?

“Encourage Student Forums in Educational Institutions to Ensure Democratization of Indian Education System”– Professor M.S.Rao
“We must do all that we can, to give our children the best in education and social upbringing - for while they are the youth of today, they shall be the leaders of tomorrow.” - John F. Kennedy
In the month of Feb 2015, I was invited to preside as a judge for a discussion forum in an educational institution where the students of engineering and management graduates participated actively. I agreed to their request as I am passionate about students and it was an opportunity for me to understand their pulse and mindset. The topic given to them was ‘Optimizing study years as a student by getting the best from the college’. They were given the following questions to discuss:
The students discussed briskly on this topic. I found a lot of fire in their bellies. Most of them complained against the educational for dearth of right faculty and preferential treatment given to some students. Some complained inaccessibility to library facilities. Most of them were ruled by emotion rather than logic. They were more demanding and displayed ‘rights-oriented’ mindset rather than ‘duty-oriented’ mindset.
Students highlighted the need for practical education through internship. They expressed that syllabus must be blend of both theory and practical as the present syllabus is outdated. They felt that faculty was not strong in their domains and some of the faculties didn’t have adequate communication skills to share their knowledge with students. Some faculty didn’t know how to reach out their message to all levels of students in the classroom. They asserted that faculty must support students with enthusiasm. Faculty must allay the apprehensions of students. Additionally, faculty must remove fear and concerns among the students on tough topics.
Students must Strive Hard
Students must read both academic and reference books. They must utilize college library completely. They must visit good blogs and online resources to update their knowledge. They must emphasize more on knowledge than on scores and grades. They must take interest to attend classes regularly. They must ask questions to faculty to enable the faculty to prepare more seriously to teach the subjects. Parents have lots of expectations on their children. Hence, students must work hard with a positive attitude and commitment. They must follow the careers of their choice rather than others’ careers under parental and peer pressure. They must show seriousness to attend classes regularly to alert the educators and to get the best out of them. In order to accomplish their dreams, students must have X factor and fire in their belly. They should not blame the circumstances. In contrast, they must work hard with what they have and from where they are to pass out as successful students from educational institutions. Above all, they must remember that there is no free lunch in this world.
Organizing students’ forums like this offer an amazing opportunity for educational institutions to understand the pulse of their students. The institutions can adjust their curriculum and other activities as per the expectations of students. Although it is not possible to meet all the aspirations of students, efforts can be initiated to accomplish as much as possible. To conclude, there must be coordination from all stakeholders including educators, students, parents and educational institutions to shell out students with a healthy mindset to build a great nation.
