“No power on earth can stop an idea whose time has come.” ―Victor Hugo

There are a few government servants who became public servants in India. They worked very hard behind the scenes for many years in their respective areas. They came to the forefront as their services were recognized by the leaders at the top.  Let us look at some of them.

Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam was a great scientist who was a tough task master. He spent four decades as a scientist and science administrator, mainly at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO). He dedicated his life to science and technology. His services were recognized by top leaders in India. He was elevated to the post of President. He set a goal of conducting 500,000 one-on-one meetings with young people over the course of his five-year term. He added dignity and grace to the post, and finally became a People’s President in India.

Dr. Manmohan Singh was an economist. He was spotted by P.V. Narasimha Rao who elevated him as the Finance Minister of India. Dr. Singh was the architect of India's reforms programme. He played a crucial role when India’s economy was on the brink of bankruptcy. He introduced economic reforms with the support of late P.V. Narasimha Rao. He was subsequently elevated as the Prime Minister of India. History will remember that a Sikh (Dr. Manmohan Singh) who was nominated for Prime Ministership by a Christian Congress president (Sonia Gandhi) and sworn in by a Muslim President (Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam).

S. Radhakrishnan was an academician. Top leaders recongised his intellectual contributions to the area of education. He was elevated to the post of President whose birthday is celebrated as the ‘Teachers Day’ in India.

Ekkadu Srinivasan Lakshmi Narasimhan was an IPS officer from Andhra Pradesh cadre who became the Director of the Intelligence Bureau.  He was elevated as the Governor of Chhattisgarh. Presently he is the Governor of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana State. He is non-controversial who added an immense value to the post of Governor.

All these leaders were in the backseat as government servants contributing their best in their own spheres consistently. Finally, their services were recognized, and elevated as public servants. Hence, contribute your best to your domain relentlessly. Add value seriously and sincerely. You will be noticed and recognized by others. You will be able to reach your pinnacle position to make a difference to the society.
