“Ramon Magsaysay Award (Asia’s Nobel Prize) for Indians” ―Professor M.S.Rao

"The growth and development of people is the highest calling of leadership." — Harvey S. Firestone

Ramon Magsaysay Award is  the Asia's highest honour given to Asians in six categories.  Established in 1957,  it is considered the Nobel Prize of Asia.  It is named after the third president of the Republic of the Philippines. In the same year (1957) Philippines lost Ramon Magsaysay in a plane crash on March 17.  The first Ramon Magsaysay Awards were given on August 31, 1958. The first awards were given to five outstanding individuals working in India, Indonesia, Philippines, Republic of China (Taiwan) and Sri Lanka, and a Philippine-based organization.

The Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation gives the prize to Asian individuals achieving excellence in their respective fields. This prestigious award is given to 6 Asians every year for outstanding contributions in government service, public service, community leadership, journalism, literature and creative communication arts, peace and international understanding and emergent leadership.

During the 2000 Magsaysay Awards presentation ceremony, the Foundation announced the creation of a sixth Award category, Emergent Leadership. The Ramon Magsaysay Award for Emergent Leadership honors "individuals, forty years of age and below, doing outstanding work on issues of social change in their communities, but whose leadership is not yet broadly recognized outside of these communities." An award in this category was given for the first time in 2001.

The award is conferred on those whose selfless service has offered their societies, Asia, and the world successful solutions to some of the most intractable problems of human development.

The Ramon Magsaysay Award is given to celebrate greatness of spirit and transformative leadership. Over three hundred outstanding men, women and organizations were given this prestigious award since its inception in 1957.  Awardees are selected annually by the trustees of the Ramon Magsaysay Award Foundation. Awardees are presented with a certificate and a medallion with an embossed image of Ramon Magsaysay.  The Award is presented to awardees in formal ceremonies in Manila, Philippines on August 31, the birth anniversary of Philippine President Ramon Magsaysay.  List of Indians who have received Ramon Magsaysay award are as follows:

“Private Pharmacy, Medical and Engineering Colleges in the Telangana State are Run by Crooks, Mafia, Money Launderers and Politicians” ―Professor M.S.Rao

“The world will not be destroyed by those who do evil, but by those who watch them without doing anything”― Albert Einstein

Some of the private pharmacy, medical and engineering colleges in the state of Telangana are run by crooks, mafia, money launderers and politicians. They open “private” educational institutions to extract money from parents and students. They focus on branding and marketing rather than on innovation or creativity to provide excellence in education. As the general public and parents don’t understand the hidden motives of these crooks, they respect these private educational institutions due to the sanctity attached to education in India.

Most owners of these private colleges are rogues and crooks who suck blood from students like leeches and don’t pay salaries to their faculty and employees on time. But they claim fee imbursement from government. They demonstrate crocodile tears for not receiving fee imbursement from government on time. They create fake accounts in the name of students to claim more fee reimbursement money from government. They show more salaries to faculty members on records but pay less in reality. They cheat the regulating bodies like All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and their affiliated universities, government of Telangana and the income tax department. They cheat their employees who are intellectuals by showing more salary on their records but pay less.  Worse, they collect more tax from employees as mentioned on the records. Some of the employees end up paying more tax to income tax department from their pockets than what they are supposed to pay. Any income tax official can easily identify these irregularities as the managements of these private colleges collect differential payments by taking the signatures of their employees on the withdrawal forms before giving monthly salaries. That means when the salary is credited, the differential amount is immediately debited from their bank accounts.  Even the bank officials are aware of these irregularities and corruption. It is the serving teaching and non-teaching employees who must fight against such corruption in colleges. But they don’t fight as they want to lose their employment on arbitrary grounds. The owners of these private colleges who are crooks use goons to settle their scores if employees raise their voice against such malpractices and corruption. Hence, intellectuals and employees are not ready to fight against these crooks and rogues in these private colleges.

It is open secret that the names of faculty members appear in multiple educational institutions in the state of Telangana.  Hence, Central Bureau of Instigation must intervene to check corruption and irregularities in these private educational institutions in the state of Telangana. Most private colleges don’t pay the salaries to their leaving employees. It puts the leaving employees on financial hardships. They don’t give service certificate, salary certificate and last pay drawn certificate which will prevent the leaving faculty members from joining employment elsewhere. These crooks and rogues level fictitious cases against the leaving employees to avoid paying salaries for three months. The crooks and rogues of these private pharmacy, medial and engineering are confident of getting out of any cases and complaints as they have close nexus with all the officials in their affiliated universities, regulating bodies and politicians. In fact, they pay huge donations to political parties during elections to keep them in good humor.  Ultimately it is the intellectuals and employees in these colleges who suffer.

A.P.J. Abdul Kalam rightly remarked, “If a country is to be corruption free and become a nation of beautiful minds, I strongly feel there are three key societal members who can make a difference. They are the father, the mother and the teacher.”  Hence, let us strive hard to free these private colleges from corruption to build a healthy education system where students get quality education and faculty enjoys intellectual ambience with dignity and honor.  Jai Hind!

Note: I wrote this article to bring corruption in private colleges. I pioneer the rights of a common man. Let us all intellectuals join this movement to create a better education system to build a strong India.

“Don't Underestimate the Power of a Common Man in India” ―Professor M.S.Rao

“Society does not go down because of the activities of criminals but because of the inactivities of the good people.” ― Swami Vivekananda

It is wrong to underestimate the power of a common man. In fact, the common man in India is very powerful. If he wants, he can shake the systems and change the governments. If he has the will power, he can fight against any individuals at the top.  There are instances where the common man filed cases against (Public Interest Litigation) top brass and put them behind the bars.

Who is a Common Man?

The meaning of common man in India is the representation of an average Indian. He symbolizes more than one billion Indians and their hopes and aspirations. The eminent cartoonist, R K Laxman coined it. Indian films often associate with the common man to connect with their audiences. They highlight the characters of heroes and heroines with the common man. The viewers enjoy seeing the films as they get into the shoes of their characters and feel that they fought against injustice.

Power of Indian Media

Indian media is very powerful. It can either make or break the governments. It highlights the injustice and irregularities in the systems. In fact, press is the fourth pillar of democracy. The Indian press is very strong where it exposed corruption in higher places; booked the culprits; and brought down the governments. There is an impression that the press gets sold out to some rich and influential individuals in India. It is not correct totally.  In fact, Indian media highlights seriously and sincerely the challenges of the common man to connect with them to bring the social change in India.

Indian democracy may not be as strong as American democracy but it is reasonably strong to check irregularities and corruption. That is the reason why India’s democracy survived many years when democracy failed in some countries ending up with dictatorship.

India Calls for Enlightened Leadership

“Whatever you do will be insignificant, but it is very important that you do it.” ― Mahatma Gandhi

Bringing the change within the system is not an easy task. It calls for lots of struggles and sacrifices. You must fight the cause despite threats to your life. You must be passionate about the people and persevere your goals to make things happen in the right direction.

Don’t blame the system. Take action to bring it to the notice of the people. Mobilize their support. You will be surprised about the outcomes. India is a country where Arvind Kejriwal became the Chief Minister of Delhi and it shows the power of the common man.

When you want to bring the change in the system, don’t look for recognition. In contrast, you must look for satisfaction about the difference you make to the society.  India needs enlightened citizens to ensure enlightened leadership. It is possible only through the power of the common man. Anna Hazare’s crusade against corruption is a reflection of common man in India. Remember, the common man always wins if he is just and right. If all educated Indians contribute their best, India will become a great country in the world.

Be the Change

“Be the change that you wish to see in the world.” ― Mahatma Gandhi

When Flipkart tried to fool us, one wise man stood up and taught them a lesson. One man can pull a huge mountain, one ordinary man can defeat an entire government, one man can shut down a billion dollar company. Yes, we are talking about the power of a common man – the power in you[1].  The common man can teach lessons to mighty individuals and institutions. He can change the world. One person who can change the world is YOU. Hence, you must take initiative to correct the irregularities and corruption in the system. Voice your views openly. Bring up the challenges in the Indian system such as corruption and irregularities to the forefront of the people. There are several rape incidents, atrocities on women, gender discrimination, honor killings, terrorism, extortions, and accidents that you can highlight to bring it to the notice of the people. Pioneer the social causes and strive for global peace and prosperity. In this way, you can bring the change in the society and the world.  Strengthen your spine. Fight to the finish. Take your battle to your logical end to build a better India and a better world. Jai Hind!

“So long as millions live in hunger and ignorance, I hold every person a traitor who, having been educated at their expense, pays not the least heed to them”. ―Swami Vivekananda
